- Looked at writings related to Chicago - Excerpts from Our America, There Are No Children Here and poems by Carl Sandburg.
- Listened to Part I of a podcast from This American Life detailing life at Chicago's Harper High School
- Explored the idea of working in Chicago - Here are a few examples of the career aspirations of the students.
Week 2 - The Trip
Day one – Wednesday, June 19
- Meet at Saugatuck High School at 7:15 a.m. - Board bus for Mich. City, IN
- Board Train at Michigan City at 8:37 a.m.
- Arrive at Hostel – 11:00 a.m.
- 11:30 – Eat at Athenian Room in Lincoln Park
- 12:30 – 2:30 Tour of DePaul University
- 3:00 – Go to Lincoln Park Zoo
- 5:30 – Dinner at El Nuevo
- 7:30 – Play at TimeLine Theatre
- 10:00 p.m. – Return to Hostel
Day two – Thursday, June 20
- 8:00 a.m. – wake-up and breakfast
- 9:00 a.m. – Depart for Pilsen
- 10:00 – Tour of National Museum of Mexican Art
- 11:30 – Walking tour of Pilsen – Public Art
- 12:30 – Depart for Hyde Park
- 1:00 – Lunch at Valois
- 2:00 – 4:00 – Tour of Hyde Park
- 5:00 – Dinner at Medici
- 7:00 – Visit Millennium Park
- 9:00 – Return to Hostel
Day three – Friday, June 21
- 8:30 wake up and have breakfast
- 10:00 – Willis (Sears) Tower
- 11:15 – Lunch at Giordano’s
- 1:00 – 2:30 - Boat Tour
- Train Departs at 4:28
- Bus pick up in Michigan City – 6:15
- Arrive at SHS – 8:45 – 9:00 p.m.
